Kicking Bishop Brennan Up the Arse

Our faith in humankind is always being tested.
My trust in getting through last week without going completely and utterly insane was doubtful.
But it helps to just say "BOLLOCKS" and pop something on like, oh I don't know, a nightie, then seize the day.
Even when you're so fecking tired you just want to close your eyes and sleeeeeeeeeeeep.

The sunnies are NOT coming off!

1970s velvet jacket and tights - thrifted
1930s pink nightie, suede shoes, beauty case - flea markets
Socks - ballet shop
Floral headband - you can find more at Sassy Vamps!
Arm warmers - Sock Dreams
1940s slip - eBay
Jewellery - everywhere
Today I kicked the lethargy right up the arse, thanks to the arrival of these scrummy pink and silver velvet knicker-shorts from BOODWAH:).

Aaaaaaand BOUNCE!
I'm baaaaaaaaaack!
Thank you BOODWAH, you made my day:).

I bet I feel just as good as Ted when he kicked Len up the arse.

Put your trust in you my darlings!

You Are My Sunshine

Obviously the first thing you've noticed about this pic is the sun shining brightly from my arse.
Secondly, your eyes are immediately drawn to the mud and leaves stuck to my heels from squelching through muck after a week of torrential rain.

But it's all good, I've been spoilt with parcels of joy from two soul sisters, Curtise and Sarah Misfit.
Here, I'm wearing a spectacular sequinned bustier sent by Curtise, which is clearly sparkling with joy at escaping the confines of a Sheffield oppy and spinning across the world for an airing in Carni-Land.
This get-up caused a bit of a stir, I'm amazed at the number of women who approach me these days and say they wish they had the guts (to do what?).

I couldn't resist buying these creepy Black Milk leggings printed with Jan van Eyck's The Last Judgement painting.

Woah!  The sunny side of eternity looks a tad more appealing, they get to wear cool outfits and halos 'n shit; while the damned and disgraced get to eat each other.

Curtise also sent me this far-out Wonder Woman frock - oh man, my brain is spinning with possibilities!
Grrrrrrrrrrr!!!

The AA lace frock from Curtise had The Stylist and I in a tizz, such soft lace and I can't wait to wear it!
Thank you Curtise, your thoughtfulness means so much to me:).

The camera's wobbling in excitement at this glorious lace jumpsuit from darling Sarah Misfit - yes, it's a completely sheer lace jumpsuit - again, the lace is sumptuous and I'm going to have quite a bit of fun styling this one:).

You know the great thing about blogger-love?
Hot vixen, Vix, sent this gorgeous, lurex Mrs Slocombe-style blouse to Sarah who loved it but it didn't sit quite right so the darling passed it on to me - now that's love.
It fits perfectly and I've been wearing it, but damn-it no pics yet.
Also in Sarah's parcel was a crazy-awesome pearly, shiny circus jacket, but because every Dick and Dora in the house has been wearing it, I have a spot of hot-glueing to do before I can wear it.
I love it:).
Thank you darlink!
Thank you so much for being such wonderful rays of sunshine, lovely Sarah and Curtise:)

Freaky Styley

Occasionally I'm tempted to do a "How-to-Wear-this-Weird-Thing-Without-Looking-Like-a-Loony-on-Day-Release" tutorial.
I don't think it's possible though, as I'm at a loss to come up with a sane formula to conform with any rules ... which are stinky anyway.
Besides, I have to be incognito as Nurse Ratchet and her hounds are always on the lookout to round me up and put me away.
I know you've had sleepless nights over The Jacket, so here 'tis, this is how I wore it out and about yesterday.

Magical fairy frock and black ring - gifted by Queen Helga
Vintage pink slip - gifted by lovely Miss V of Two Squirrels Vintage
Pink and orange sparkle necklace - gifted by her Royal Pinkness, Krista
Vintage military jacket, green heart ring, earrings, lace collar - thrifted
Headband - available from my shop, Sassy Vamps!
Beauty case, shoes (DIY glitterfication) - flea markets
Tights - eBay

And here's the result of this morning's dash out the door after rounding up homework books, making lunches, refereeing the kids fighting over the correct way to do the one-two-step shuffle, patching up a nasty gash on #3 Son from a basketball game, getting The Phoenix comfy and quelling a screeching guinea pig with delicious strawberries.
Morning all!

I couldn't resist a close up of my shiny Barbarella-robot leg wear:).
Headband - more at Sassy Vamps!
1930s onsie refashioned into top and earrings - eBay
Layered leggings - both from Black Milk
Doc Martens and black top - retail
1960s beauty case and granny beads - flea market
I think this find deserves a link to Lakota's Tah-Dah Tuesday.
All set?
Aye, aye capt'n!
Seen you soon troops:)) xo

I'm Not Dressed Up

If someone invited me to an event requiring a dress code, I'm not sure what I'd wear.
I'm so steeped in dressing to please myself that an evening frock, tail coat, floral tiara or a tutu have simply become daily wear.
Does it make special events less special?
I have no idea ... I rarely go anywhere fancy.
Neglecting a clothing collection due to a sparse social calendar doesn't sit well with a vintage-aholic, thus my decision to wear what I love every single day, everywhere I go.
I figure if I'm lucky, I've got another 40-odd years on this planet.
That's potentially a long spell of "greige" track pants and hoodies if I fancy merely existing in a half-life.
Sod that, I'm wearing it all!
I'm gonna grow old disgracefully.

This is the striped blazer I op-shopped from Aid for the Blind ... I'm so happy with it I feel a Welcome Home Helga SQUEEEEEEEEEEE coming on!
I'm probably breaking about 379 military dress codes here - YAY!!!

Oh and due to popular demand (yes, I'm talking to you!)  and encouragement from The Phoenix, I dashed back to Aid for the Blind on Saturday, praying the red and purple regimental evening jacket was still there.

Bingo!
Mama's got another jacket ... which means, according to Vix's very clever rules, something has to leave my wardrobe.
I've already had a massive wardrobe clear out so I think I can spare the room for two new, awesome vintage jackets!

I felt some old-time curls, glittery shoes and shiny prosti pants were just the thing to loosen up this jolly-good-pip-pip-eh-what-blazer.

Pink rose headband - my shop, Sassy Vamps!
Spiked headband - from my FB friend, Queenie
1930s refashioned onsie into top - eBay
Leggings - Black Milk
Blazer, earrings - thrifted
Shoes, beaded collar, locket, beauty case - markets
Johnny Cash pendant - Etsy
Sunnies - shop in Fitzroy, Melbourne
I had an hour to kill while The Stylist was at ballet and got accosted by nearly every Dick, Dora and Diane on the street!
Sitting having a quiet coffee in the sunshine, two lovely women introduced themselves, shook hands with me and asked if they could take photos - they were so sweet!
They had spent a fruitful morning trawling our prolific local oppys and looked very happy with themselves:).

Then my ole mate Ike came along with a massive boom box strapped to his walker, belting out some Red Hot Chilli Peppers.
Ike is an 88-year-old engineer who fought during the WWII D-Day landings then helped rebuild post-war Berlin.
In Hanover, he met his beloved late-wife who used to dress like Carmen Miranda (I've seen the pics!).
While Ike and I chatted away happily, passers-by constantly stopped for a eyeful or a photo.
One woman walked by and said "I love your hat".
Ike snapped back, "Well I love myself" then got up and did a jig to his music.  Heheee!
Bless.

And that my friends, is the moral of the story ... don't wait for special occasions to wear your favourite things, you may never get the chance.
Love your life, wear what makes you feel like a shining star, don't stop learning and most importantly ... stick it to the man!

Tiiiiiiiiiiiiiiime Is On My Side!

Yes it is!
G'day chapettes, I'm in a celebratory mood and it's a day of firsts:
It's Frock on a Friday and I dug out a 1960s pink knitted frock that has been in hiding since I bought it a few years ago.
It's a grown-up replica of the frock I wore to my brother's wedding in 1971 and yes, I was three at the time.
While in another time-warp, the world is celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Rolling Stones' first gig.
Yep, Keef has out-lived a countless number of his peers and he's still rockin'!
Oh, and Friday the 13th is a lucky date for The Phoenix and I, so I'm feeling extra chirpy:).
I reckon a black top hat is just right for the occasion.

Pardon me ma'm, your slip is showing.
Oh really?
Wanna closer look?

1960s knitted frock, leather gloves, lace collar - thrifted
Vintage pink slip - gifted by the gorgeous Miss V of Two Squirrels Vintage
1950s mohair and fur coat, beauty case - flea markets
Hologram pendant - Original Seed
Comic tights - Sock Dreams
VW Melissa Lady Dragon Ball shoes - shopped by the superb Suzanne
Vintage men's top hat - De Mille Vintage, Melbourne
School's out for the week and after force-feeding the little ones hot chocolate and trick-flavour jelly beans (it's true, Jelly Belly Bean Boozled's include vomit, rotten egg and dog food-flavours), I dragged them into Aid for the Blind.
It was worth it.

Someone had ditched their military uniforms and it was a toss-up between a fabulous striped blazer and a regimental dinner jacket.
I have a serious jacket/coat/cape problem so I forced myself to pick just one.
Decision time.

There are some children who'll happily slap on a huge-arse-giant-feck-off-bow at the drop of a hat, ooh and aah at the merch and snap off countless pics.
This magnificent sparkly creation simply HAD to come home with us.

While there are other's who prefer to cower under a clothes rack, rocking backwards and forwards mumbling, "make it stop".
I have no idea why this happens.

Was I mad to leave the Home Journal's in the shop?

These amazing WWII newspapers all came home with us though, as The Phoenix and I love collecting wartime reading materials.
He was pretty stunned these significant pieces of history detailing the Blitz and Japanese surrender were only $6.
So which jacket came home with me?

I have been pining for a striped blazer since I was an egg and the fact this is a vintage military one in AWESOME colours costing only $15 (and it fits!) just made my day:).

I have a challenge for you.
I'll bet you can't stay sitting down during this song, filmed in 1968, as Mick and the lads delivered their hedonistic devil music to the mum's and dad's at home watching the telly.
Ooh-ooh, ooh-ohh, ooh-ooh, ooh-ooh!
Note the polite clapping and po-faces in the audience ... I would be streaking in front of the cameras at the sight of Mick tearing his shirt off and rolling on the floor!
