Do It All In Bed

There's plenty of time to think in bed.
Especially when you're not allowed to do much else between the sheets.
I spent a couple of days snuggled up under the quilts in my favourite spot over the weekend, after a wee op on Friday.
Blogger was down.
So I read, watched an obscene number of movies and had a guilt-free web trawl.

There are plenty of online temptations for Australian shoppers considering our dollar today reaps US $1.05, compared with US $0.63 two years ago.
Our media outlets report it's a great time to travel, while local retail and tourism giants are doing their best to beat us up with the guilt stick for spending up overseas.
I realised for the 1000th time that I'm very happy with the lifestyle I've chosen.
There is some tweaking to be done, such as a much-needed holiday, but apart from that, as a consumer, I think I'm on the right track.
Op shops and flea markets are always my first port of call for everything.
After that I look online for books, secondhand clothing and new shoes.
Winter's coming so during the past fortnight there's been quite a bit of op shopping (thrifting) such as an oil heater for Number Two Son's room.
I bought three lovely, little-used woollen quilts and cotton quilt covers to keep wee tootsies warm.
A kitchen table and chairs so we don't have to eat off the coffee table anymore, plus books galore for us all.
While I was resting up after the GA had worn off, I decided my look would be "1940s Lady in Convalesence During Afternoon Visiting Hour".
Waddaya reckon?
Here's the lowdown of my budget look:
Liberty of London silk scarf - $3
1930s peach silk cape - $15
Sexy bra-cup slip - $2 ;))
MAC Russian Red lippy - $10 (online - instead of $35 retail!)
Blue ring - a buck(?)
Revlon Gold Coin nail polish - $11 (discount chemist - I NEVER pay this much but I love it!)

These pics remind me of the David Byrne film True Stories and the utterly mad woman who lives in her bed.  The film is a  wonderfully dry observation of western society and consumerism in the 80s - even more relevant in 2011!

  9. Oh. My. Goodness.
You look just fabulous - I now want a bed cape - I am sat here wearing a scarf turban in tribute to your utterly-decadent-receiving-visitors-from-your-bed attire. I hope you allowed them a tiny bit of this splendour at the hospital :) I see marabou trim in my future.

Hope you're soon mended and back up on your Vivvy Westwoods in no time!

  11. You look pretty darn glamorous in bed! And MAC for only 10$?! Wow! Oh, and I believe you asked what I was studying? I'm doing a Graduate Diploma of Art History. I loved Art History in my under-grad (visual arts)...not so sure I like studying it quite as much as I thought I would but we'll see!

    your stunning!
when I had my hysterectomy I tried to make myself look half way decent for a week in bed off and on, I hate looking yuck when I feel yuck, I try to always make myself up and It blows my mind when I see people go to the store in their pajama pants and sometimes slippers, ugggg.
I wish we could go back to the days of slip on gloves, hankerchiefs, hats, unbrellas, and such and no one would think a thing but how great everyone looks, even in bed.
Tried to e mail you back, wouldnt go thru for some reason. did you get your dress and x-tra surprise yet?

Then just last week I was in Asda (less higher class supermarket) and saw so many people shopping in their Pjs!!!! What is up with people lol x

  23. Yep, I could spend my whole life in bed, too. Actually on some days I do, and my kids come to the bedroom if they want an audience. You've just inspired me to upgrade my bed days outfit to somethign more fetching.I

It goes back to my childhood - I remember a favourite game which was to make a random mountain out of my doona, and then pretend the doona folds are houses for my small dolls - sort of a doona cave city for them. Bet not many other girls played that one.

    Hope your recovery goes well.

  25. I found your blog when I was reading Terri's comments; just checking to see if she had posted anything yet, but she hadn't. Anyway, I'm glad I found YOUR blog; loving your look, I think you nailed the name of it. I read today that MAC Russian Red was the #1 selling MAC shade in France, so bonjour, I am your newest follower!
